For some reason people always seem surprised when I tell them about my frequent beer tasting experiences. What! A French woman drinking a pint of pale ale rather than a flute of Veuve Cliquot! Olalala!
The truth is I do love an icy cold beer. And not just in summer. But, errh, excuse me, not any beer! Like with my wine, and with my food, I am also very particular about the beer I drink. Actually, it’s quite simple, I only drink Ale. You may or may not know, there are only two styles of beer: Lager and Ale. Some of my favourite beer include wheat beer, biere blanche, pale ale and amber ale.
I attended Redoak Beer Tasting class (BeerGustation) recently and I highly recommend it if, like me, you love boutique beers (as supposed to the mass-produced industrial type). Redoak is Australia’s most awarded brewery, offering a unique beer and food experience in Sydney. There, I learnt how to evaluate a beer based on its appearance, aroma, flavour & body, style and technical quality. I tasted six different beer styles along with delicious matching courses.
On the Menu
- Eschallot, mushroom and goat cheese tartlets & Spiced pumpkin shooter, Persian feta and snipped chives (degustation size) – matched with Redoak Pommy Bitter
- Miso glazed seared tuna, ponzu jelly and seaweed salad & Lime and chili marinated prawn, corn fritter and avocado mousse (degustation size) – matched with Redoak Harvest Lager
- Tasmanian grain fed lamb rump with pickled slaw, herbed chats and dark ale jus (full size) – matched with Redoak Miss Flannery
- Crumbled Gippsland blue, fruit compote, muscatels and fig bread (degustation size) – matched with Redoak Winter In The Rye
- Dark chocolate mousse, mixed berries compote, chocolate shavings and whipped cream (full size) matched with Redoak Dr Paddys Elixir
